Lorenzo Marini's work of art meets the eco-design of Santambrogio Milano
Is titled 'Seat or Read? ' the signature crystal armchair Lorenzo Marini for Santambrogio Milan, on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2022. A work of art that disintegrates conventional distances and becomes an integral part of a contemporary design furniture, to be experienced daily through an intimate and informal relationship. Lorenzo Marini's letters, dissolved by their own intrinsic function, are placed on a crystal painting, also back of the seat, trespassing the mere communicative purposes of art and thus reaching a new tangible dimension. A change in the perceptual and relational experience in which art, from an object placed within a space, becomes the space itself.
“We are used to seeing art as something untouchable. Something to hang on the wall and look at with respect. " - declares Lorenzo Marini - "I wanted to overturn this paradigm by transforming my work 'Snowtype' (a snowfall of freed letters), into a sitting space and I did it with the material that more than any other contains all the light in the world: crystal . " - concludes.
A linear and essential design that of 'Seat or Read? in full Bauhaus style, faithful to the principles of functionalism and formal purism that characterize the entire twenty-year production of the brand Santambrogio Milan, specialized entirely in crystal design and architecture. The primitive geometric shapes of the seat are shaped by the rationality and lightness of the crystal, material eco-friendly and 100% recyclable. The attention paid to environmental sustainability it is not limited only to the material used, but also extends to the printing of Lorenzo Marini's work, made exclusively with ecological paints. Water jet cutting of glass is the cold process used for the production of the seat: this implies the absence of heat that can alter the chemical - physical characteristics of the crystal.
The synergy between art and design allows simultaneously with 'Seat or Read? ' on the one hand to admire the enhancement of the aesthetics of Marini's letters, looking beyond the alphabetic structure and semantics and, on the other, to literally look through this work of art thanks to the total transparency of the crystal that amplifies the spaces and it reduces its boundaries.
