The unwanted guest. How many of you have dreamed of spending a dream weekend in a chalet? Immersed in a forest and isolated from the world? A location made even more magical by a winter atmosphere dominated by snow. An ideal weekend of tranquility and relaxation to spend with your partner or best friend, or why not venture alone to reflect on your life and make new acquaintances.

But how long can all this last?

An evocative and heavenly atmosphere that will soon turn into the worst nightmare that twelve strangers will face amidst mysterious murders and secrets that slowly come to light. Snow turning into an ice storm, lack of internet, isolation and power failure are all elements of that Shari lapena he inserted into this thriller to create a good dose of suspense.

What the series is about?

A winter weekend at Catskill and Mitchell's Inn, a chalet nestled in the forest, is an ideal setting for a romantic and relaxing getaway. The refuge offers old rooms with huge wood-burning fireplaces, a well-stocked cellar and the opportunity to go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or simply relax by reading a crime story.

When the weather gets worse and a blizzard cuts off electricity and all contact with the outside world, guests settle down and try to make the most of the emergency situation.

But soon one of them is found dead, under unclear circumstances, and fear takes over. And when those present begin to die, one after the other, panic turns to terror. In that snowy paradise, someone or something is trying to kill them. And there's nothing the survivors can do but hope to survive the storm and both.

In those days of forced coexistence, in a climate of fear and suspicion, each of the guests is forced to reveal their most terrible and untold secrets, up to an unexpected and unpredictable ending.

Review

If a few years ago they had offered me the reading of The unwanted guest , the hopes that this would happen would have been very vain. Instead, today I must say that it was a good experience, except that in me was born the passion for the thriller and horror genre about two years ago when my boyfriend made me break this fear and erased my prejudices for the genre by watching some movies like Shining, Suspiria by Dario Argento, The Conjuring and many others.

The unwanted guest it was a reading that kept my curiosity alive throughout the novel. Interesting is the accurate description of the setting and the characters, especially in their psychological profile.

The unwanted guest it is a novel that made me experience everything while reading; it made me experience every single character, all their points of view, any situation they were in at that moment. I experienced the anguish and fear of frightened characters in search of a mysterious killer who for some reason - which will only be discovered at the end, I don't want to spoil - was killing the guests of the chalet one by one; I felt the emotion of those who were suspected but I had the opportunity to take on the role of someone who discovers the betrayal of their partner.

So after reading this novel you really get the idea that you never really know people all the way.

The cornerstone of the story is the revelation of one's most terrible secrets by some of the protagonists; secrets that will bring even more turmoil, anguish and restlessness to an environment they were now prisoners of.

The unwanted guest it is a novel that gives so many emotions that it makes you experience what it is telling firsthand, and then, in my opinion, in its totality it can be considered perfect. What has been said can also be seen from the fact that the novel is of medium length, does not lengthen and is not dispersive but is concise, direct and immediately gets to the point. Shari Lapena with a third-person narration has managed to devise a flowing story that can be read in a flash and that infuses the reader with the right amount of fear, curiosity and tension, ingredients that a self-respecting thriller should have.
