There was a time they were Kate and William and their relationship to be in the spotlight.
Well before that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry enter the scene, in fact, William's love life was the subject of headlines on the front page of all the tabloids.

It was 2007, and according to recent rumors it was Kate's younger sister, Pippa Middleton, who brought her sister back with her (then future) husband.

When William and Kate broke up
After William and Kate's graduation in 2005, it was thought that it was only a matter of time before William proposed in marriage.
However, things did not go quite like this.
In December 2006, the couple were no longer spending as much time together, and William went so far as to cut off Kate's family vacation at the last minute.
In the spring of 2007, William was stationed away from London on business, and he and Kate hardly saw each other again.
Physical distance turned into emotional distance e William left Kate in April 2007.
The role of Pippa Middleton
Just after the breakup, Kate took a trip to Ireland with her mother to try to get her separation from William out of her mind, but once back in London her younger sister took on the task of cheering Kate up.
Like any good sister, Pippa has decided that he wouldn't have watched Kate cry for William.
Thus Pippa has put her plan into action, i.e. any sister / friend's plan after a break up: pushed Kate out of the house to entertain her and make them live his best life.

During that time Kate was often photographed with Pippa, both of whom were fabulous while they were clearly having a good time.
The paparazzi took many photos of Kate with her sister in these evenings, photos that also came to William and that showed his ex living great without him.
When William returned to Kate
It's unclear if this was all part of Pippa's plan, or if she just wanted to help her sister out of a breakup.
What is certain is that qThe photos made William move.
In a few months the prince returned to Kate e the two got back together in July 2007.

Fans of the couple were not at all surprised by this flashback, on the other hand they had been together for nearly four years before their separation.
The two then married in a lavish ceremony in 2011 with millions of people tuned in to follow the wedding.
And now, after nearly ten years of marriage and twenty since their first meeting, Kate and William still seem genuinely happy with their life together.
