DIY scrub: maybe we have finished it or we are finishing it, or we want to try to make something ourselves with the ingredients we have at hand.

Rule number one: under no circumstances need to ever rub the skin, it is not needed with the products on the market, it is not needed with the do-it-yourself. You would get the opposite effect, the skin reacting or it could thicken or over-react.

Lo scrub helps the cell turnover and renewal, better make a light one and sensitive a couple of times a week, that a session every now and then and forcibly. How do you know you are doing the right or wrong thing for your skin? Our mantra is: self-evaluating changes, the skin always "speaks" to us, let's listen to it.

1 Base for scrub

We need an element that acts as an amalgamating agent, which can be applied to the skin and can be removed with normal cleansing, both face and body. We give you some tips.

  • Cream: Do you have a face or body cream that you have left aside for any reason? Well, give it a try, if it's not overly oily or fragrant it will be fine.
  • Yoghurt: it must be white and basic (for obvious reasons!) and not excessively liquid nor too thick.
  • Miele: that it is as fluid and liquid as possible, we recommend it especially for the face or for specific parts of the body.
  • Maple or agave syrup: they have the right consistency to create a homemade peeling with a gourmet flavor, always for the face or specific parts of the body.
  • Fruit or vegetables: particularly suitable for this purpose fruit with a pulpy consistency such as watermelon, banana, peaches, strawberries, cucumbers. Beware of any allergies. The principle is that of smoothies, only instead of drinking them you apply them. Maybe blend an extra for beauty purposes!
  • Oil: preferably coconut or almond.

2 Particles suitable for scrub

Depending on the base material that we will have available to create our scrub, we will add the right ingredient to the exfoliating part.

  • Zucchero: exfoliating agent both white and cane par excellence. A little trick that you will be grateful for: although it is already chopped, reduce it even more with a large spoon or a meat mallet or a rolling pin. The finer the grains, the less you risk scratching yourself.
  • Coffee grounds: if you are a mocha lover, we already understand, use the grounds, if you are not and you have a jar of coffee or coffee beans (shred them!), they will be fine for the purpose.
  • Dried fruits: almonds, hazelnuts, cashews etc etc, clearly not salty but basic. Finely chopped or powdered, it can perform an exfoliating action with the addition of also having moisturizing properties.
  • Bicarbonate: particularly suitable for delicate skin, play it safe.
  • Sale: good idea in case of body scrub, but if you like, no one will stop you from using it for the face too.

3 Mix and match

To have a good peeling action our do-it-yourself scrub must be neither too liquid nor too dry but achieve a good compromise, also to help us in the application. Here are our tips:

  • Put the ingredient in a bowl chosen for the exfoliating part. The quantity needed? For the face or for some parts of the body or for the whole body, you can go by eye. If you want to be more precise: a teaspoon for each part of the face, if it is the body instead you need a larger spoon per part.
  • Gradually add the amalgamating element (see paragraph 1) to create a compound with a suitable texture, as we said a little earlier, neither too liquid nor too dry.

4 The secret ingredient

Once you get one scrub with an optimal consistency you can add:

  • Essential oil: lemon, neroli, lavender, mint, eucalyptus, chamomile, almond or rose but which are pure and for cosmetic use. A few drops will suffice.
  • Drops: lemon or citrus squeezed.
  • Spices: cloves, dried flowers, pieces of cinnamon or star anise.
  • Serum: a dozen drops of your favorite serum can give you a nutritional surplus.

One last piece of advice, if you want to prepare some to keep in the refrigerator, take into account the perishable nature of the materials with which you do it. Common sense generally dictates that a "fresh" scrub be consumed within a week at the latest. If the base is in beauty cream, even 10 days but always keep an eye on what it looks like. By having more options you can indulge yourself with creativity.

We also include a very nice video with some more tips. Good scrub to all!
