In the collective imagination we speak of "Curse of the 27" or, to use a more journalistic term, del Club 27. The expression, for those not in the know, refers to a particular group of artists (mostly rock singers) who are died at the age of 27. Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse are some of the most famous musicians of this group, but if we were to extend it to the world of cinema, there would be many other names. To share a similar final destination we learned to be the actor Jonathan Brandis, best known for playing the young Bill Denbrough in the television version of IT. The young actor tragically committed suicide at the age of 27.





The career between The Neverending Story and IT

Jonathan Brandis entered the world of acting at an early age, earning his first roles in television series such as Kate and Allie, Lawyers in Los Angeles, Dad's friends, Casalingo Superpiù Murder, she wrote. His international notoriety arrives in 1990 when he was chosen to play the protagonist Bastian ne The Neverending Story 2, sequel to the previous famous film released in 1984.

Also in that year he joined the cast of the acclaimed TV movie IT, where he plays one of the young protagonists, Bill Denbrough, Georgie's older brother.

In 1992 he starred with Chuck Norris in the film Steel fist, where he played the role of Barry Grabrewski. Another important role that Brandis played was the character of Lucas Wolenczak, his portrayal in futuristic fiction. SeaQuest - Odyssey in the depths (SeaQuest DSV)produced by Steven Spielberg, in 1993.




The death

Johnathan Brandis died hanged November 12, 2003. The week before his death, Jonathan spent a few days at his parents' house, who noticed that their son was down in the dumps, but did not understand why. On the evening of November 11, 2003, the boy went to the house of some of his friends and in the middle of the evening, out of the blue, he left the room where they were staying and walked away.

One of his friends, not seeing him return, went to look for him and after about 15 minutes he found him, at 23:40, unconscious and hanged from a nylon rope in the corridor on the second floor of the building. The friend cut the rope and called for help, who arrived urgently and transported him to the hospital. But nothing to do: Brandis died the next day at 2:45 am, because her throat had been irretrievably torn by the nylon rope.

The causes of suicide they are not known. Brandis left no farewell notes and the family was devastated by the incident. According to his mother, the young man had no personal problems, but he was very strict towards himself and many of his friends claimed that Johnatahn felt depressed about the failure of his career to take off.
