Tokyo, May 13, 2022 - La Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ICCJ) today announced the winners of Japan Olive Oil Prize (JOOP) and JOOP Design Award. Managed to grow and establish itself as one of the most important competitions in Asia, with the aim of promote world oil excellence, JOOP celebrates its 10th anniversary today and sees the participation in the competition of 500 labels from 21 countries.
“In its first 10 years JOOP has become an institution, it is growing slowly but with character, tranquility and quality. The people who organize this competition and the JOOP jury, made up of internationally recognized professionals, are dedicated and try to achieve the best possible result for the producers."He declares Konstantinos Liris, panel leader of the jury.
"Japan ranks as the first consumer of EVOO oil among Asian importing countries and in eighth place in the world. JOOP's main objective is to promote and educate consumers on the beneficial effects of this product. We are coordinating promotional activities to give visibility to the award-winning oils in large-scale distribution such as in the two Hankyu and Isetan chains, the most important in Japan" commented Davide Fantoni, Secretary General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
In the past 5 years, imports from Japan are grown up of the 33% by volume for a total value di 206 million in the 2020. Imports of Italian extra-virgin olive oil represent the 39% of the value imported in total from Japan, for a value of 81 million euros in 2020 with volumes equal to 16 thousand tons. Japan continues to show good prospects for expansion with growing olive oil consumption.
As part of JOOP, the competition for three years JOOP Design Award rewards producers who have distinguished themselves in communicatingidentity of their product, through the logo, labeling and bottle design. Also this year the competition sees the participation of a jury of internationally renowned creatives: Nini Andrade Silva (Portugal), Piero Lissoni (Italy), Sibel Kutlusoy (Turkey), Adrián Pierini (Argentina) and Giovanna Talocci (Italy).
JOOP counts a jury of 9 judges certified internationals, supervised by 3 panel leaders: Konstantinos Liris (Greece), Antonio G. Lauro (Italia) Yamada (Japan). The rigorous selection proclaimed the winners in the categories IGP, DOP, Organic, Monocultivar, Blend and Flavored. Depending on the score obtained, the oils were awarded prizes Best in Class, Gold e Silver. Following, during the awards ceremony, the 3 winners of the JOOP Design Award.
