Sanremo 1989

The XXXIX edition of the Italian Song Festival aired from 25 to 29 February 1989 and was conducted by four children of art: Rosalinda Celentano, Gianmarco Tognazzi, Danny Quinn and Paola Dominguin. At the end of the singing competition, the ranking was as follows:

Winning song: "I'll leave you”, Played by Anna Oxa and Fausto Leali;

Second classified: "Mothers”, Played by Toto Cutugno;

Third place: ","Dear land of mine”, Played by Al Bano and Romina Power.

The edition of the Festival, dated 1989, will be remembered for the unfortunate conduct of those who were defined by the critics "the children of art”, Because all four sons of famous fathers. Initially chosen as assistants to the conductor, they were hastily promoted themselves as conductors, after the repeated refusals of important artists and presenters. In that edition, for the first time, a member of the Italian parliament participated as a singer. It was Gino Paoli, elected in 1987 on the PCI list.

A great return

The 39th edition of the Sanremo Festival will be remembered mainly for the return, on important stages, of a star of the first magnitude in the firmament of the history of Italian song: Mia Martini, for everyone Mimi. The title of his piece presented at the Festival is: "At least you in the universe".

After years spent in a dramatic artistic oblivion, due to the ignoble accusations that the entertainment world continually vomited on her, Mia Martini decided to go back into the musical arena. What was Mia Martini accused of? To be an artist who brings bad luck. This was said, in the musical circles of those years, around his figure. Being brutally removed from her work environment, following these absurd rumors, deeply marked the Calabrian artist, who decided to abandon the scenes.

The human and artistic rebirth

In 1972 Bruno Lauzi and Maurizio Fabrizio wrote two masterpieces of Italian songwriting in a few days: "Little man" and "At least you in the universe". “Little man” was Mia Martini's first, great success, while “At least you in the universe” remained closed in the drawer of the authors for several years. Bruno Lauzi wanted Mia Martini to sing it and waited until 1989, when Mimì decided to interpret it at the Sanremo Festival. That beautiful song, combined with its extraordinary interpretation, earned her the conquest of the Critics' Prize, but, above all, the human and artistic rebirth of a great singer, kept away from the stage only because of unspeakable reasons.

His great successes

  • "Little man"
  • "At least you in the universe"
  • "Minuet"
  • "Men do not change"
  • "And the sky doesn't end"
  • "Cu'mme"
  • "Father indeed"
  • "The construction of a love"

These are just some of Mia Martini's great successes. More than 25 years after her untimely death, she continues, incessantly, to be remembered through her interpretations. Out of the ordinary vocal qualities and extraordinary interpretative ability, have made her an unforgettable icon of Italian song. Probably, as often happens in life, among the insiders in the music field, who still today remember it with nostalgia and affection, there are also those who contributed to the its ban as an unwelcome artist. Fortunately, there remain the millions of admirers who continue to listen to her in every way, to remember and remind us of her artistic greatness. Mia Martini has participated ten times in the Sanremo Festival. Although she often performed beautiful songs, she never managed to win an edition of the singing festival. In 1989 "At least you in the universe" it ranked ninth, in 1992 with the song "Men do not change", came second.

We want to close this brief but necessary and heartfelt memory of Mia Martini, with the words of "And the sky does not end”, Song written for Mimì by Ivano Fossati, another great Italian songwriter artist, with whom Mia Martini lived an intense love story. Mia Martini left us in 1995 at just 47 years. The cause of death was attributed to a sudden illness. She was born on September 20, 1947 in Bagnara Calabra and it was actually called Sunday Rita Adriana Bertè, older sister of Loredana Berté.

And the sky does not end

Even if you are missing

Will it be pain or is it always heaven

As far as I can see

Who knows if I'll be afraid

Or the sense of wanting you

If I have a pale and confident face

There will be no one who laughs at me

If I will look for someone

To return to me

Someone who smiles a little confident

That he already knows for himself
