The Sala degli Affreschi of the Accademia di Belle Arti Tadini on the lakefront of Lovere (Bergamo) will host the presentation of the book "Il Signore di Notte", a detective story set in Venice in 1605. The event is set for Thursday 8 September 2022 at 21 pm Entrance from piazza Garibaldi 5. The journalist Sergio Cotti will converse with the author Gustavo Vitali.
The work is a historical thriller with real-life characters that the author proposes in a fantasy plot. In addition, the addition of curiosities, anecdotes, facts and facts of real life of the ancient Serenissima constitutes a wealth of information that sets the reader in the climate of a Venice that has just emerged from a century of great splendor and is heading towards an uncertain future.
It all began on April 16, 1605. In his miserable hut the corpse of a noble who fell into poverty, the first victim of a story full of suspense, was found. To take charge of the investigation is a clumsy and bungling magistrate who breaks into the scene of the crime with a good dose of arrogance; twisted, uncertain character who changes mood from moment to moment, tormented by pains of a past that he cannot put behind him. Mostly he dives into a bizarre relationship with a lady as beautiful as she is indecipherable that will bring him new torments.
In the meantime he faces the investigations with a presumption equal only to his own inadequacy, running into sensational defeats. Fortunately, a captain of the guards comes to his rescue who has the experience he lacks, a character who will gradually rise to the role of co-protagonist. He will direct the unwary towards the solution of the enigma in a not at all obvious and completely surprising ending, but only after incessant twists and turns, ambushes, new crimes and those that re-emerge from the past.
Milanese by birth, Gustavo Vitali, has lived in Bergamo for more than 40 years. He is a lover of history in general and of Venice in particular, as well as paragliding. This first work of him denotes a long work of research and documentation.
