An idea for a sweet awakening

Christmas is almost upon us… decorated trees, lights on the street, last gifts to buy… it is the magic that surrounds us every year, transporting us to a unique atmosphere loved by everyone!

The lights and colors enchant us, the Christmas films involve us and the gifts to give torment us, but the beauty is also this and we almost wish it would last longer.

Parties are a way to get together and be together, they are family lunches, dinners with friends, but also sweet breakfasts to start the day in the best possible way… after all, it takes very little to experience a magical atmosphere.

If you have not yet thought about how to make Christmas morning or your holidays tasty, I have thought of a recipe that will surely be for you.

  • Gingerbread Cookies

Beloved in the Anglo-Saxon world, and now also in Italy, Gingerbreads have conquered everyone with their rich and spicy flavor!

What makes them famous is the typical shape of the Gingerbread Man of the homonymous fable, but they can be made in all the shapes you want: reindeer, trees, stars or garlands.

The ingredients for about 15 cookies are:

  • 5g of ginger powder
  • 350g of 00 flour
  • A pinch of ground cloves
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 5g of cinnamon powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of baking soda
  • 160g of sugar
  • 110g of cold butter
  • 1 egg
  • A pinch of fine salt
  • 50g of honey

The ingredients seem a lot, but the process isn't that difficult!

Just make a spicy shortcrust pastry by combining all the spices (cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger) with the baking soda and granulated sugar in a blender.

Then add the pinch of salt and honey and finally pour the cold butter cut into cubes.

Blended the mixture intermittently so as not to heat the dough too much, it will be poured onto the work surface forming the classic fountain in which the egg will fall to be incorporated with the fork and then with the hands.

Once the dough is consistent, a loaf will be formed to rest wrapped in a film for at least 30 minutes.

After the resting time, our dough will be ready to be spread on a floured surface (with a thickness of around 1 cm) and can be cut out with the shapes we have chosen.

Transfer the biscuits to a baking tray lined with parchment paper, just cook them in a preheated static oven at 170 ° for about 15 minutes.

Once out of the oven it will be possible to decorate them with royal icing (whipped egg whites and icing sugar) with the help of a sac-à-poche.

Needless to say, the smell that will spread in your kitchens will immerse you in the Christmas atmosphere in an instant and eating them will make you feel like a child again!

Wishing you Happy Holidays to spend with those you love, I invite you to try this delicious recipe accompanying it with a good cappuccino, a coffee or a tea ... and it will immediately be magic!
