Bourjois Java Poudre de riz face powder

Powder Bourjois Poudre de riz de Java

The first formulation of the Java rice powder, historical product of Bourjois, dates back to 1879 when it was first marketed in France and then throughout the world, so much so that it nearly sold two million packs in 1897: an impressive amount for consumption at the time.

La package today recalls the traditional one, also round and green in color, and has kept the same white label in which elaborate black writings stand out. Obviously plastic has been replaced by cardboard and the powder contained has also been reformulated on the basis of more recent cosmetological research.

Despite the retro look, the jar is equipped with a screw cap and a very comfortable resealable sifter which allows you to dose the product carefully and put it back in your bag or suitcase without fear of finding powder anywhere when reopening. If you've already tried taking loose powder cosmetics on vacation, you know what I'm talking about. If, on the other hand, you are among the lucky ones who have never done it, I will summarize for you the result in just two words: disaster-unspeakable!

Poudre de riz de Java: my opinion

Below the thin protective layer offered by the sifter we find the actual powder, which appears to the eye as one very fine powder of color light pink, infused with a myriad of micro glitters of the same color. Although I started well prepared, because pink powders are my weak point, the presence of glitter initially made me hold my breath: I like the luminous effect more than the matte one, but from there to looking like a street lamp the step is short. Being able to apply a glitter cosmetic all over the face therefore required a certain amount of courage.

Help! Really has i glitter?

Actually once on the skin the glitter disappear, the powder becomes transparent and the face takes on a bright appearance and fresh but very natural, in the most typical Parisian style. It is as if the pearlescence creates a very discreet reflective surface, capable of hiding its presence while continuing to work silently behind the scenes, making the face shine.

The bright particles are visible to the naked eye only when the face is hit by strong direct light, but in the office, school or supermarket it will not be possible to identify them.
Obviously it is important do not exceed with the quantity of product: the Poudre de riz de Java gives its best and remains translucent only if applied in a thin and uniform layer.

It also does not emphasize the pores as a normal product with glitter would do and indeed it helps to even out the texture of the skin, probably thanks to the particular light reflection system.

Being very fine, it is also good for fix the concealer around the eyes, obtaining a result very similar to that guaranteed by Secret Brightening Powder by Laura Mercier, which I own in the clear version.

Among the ingredients we find the rice powder from which the product takes its name, an important element because its chemical structure is similar to ceramide, a molecule that is found in high concentration in cell membranes and helps to reinforce the skin barrier.

The rose scent, which recalls that of cosmetics of yesteryear and is also common to Bourjois blush, delicious in their macaron shape and for the immediate good health effect they offer to the face.

final Thoughts

In conclusion, Bourjois's Poudre de riz de Java has become one of my favorite powders thanks to its silky texture, its pink color and the way it reflects the light, creating a very natural radiant effect.

I recommend it to anyone with normal, combination or dry skin and wants a bright but not shiny face. I do not recommend it instead to those who have an unfinished business with glitter, even the very small ones, to those who prefer the ultra matte effect and to those with oily skin, unless you plan to reapply the powder several times during the day.
