Words are like stones

In extremely complex times, such as those we are experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we must pay the utmost attention whenever we decide to speak. Whether it is comments on events that occur daily around us, or when, and here the precautions must multiply, judgments are expressed directly referable to the virus that is heavily affecting our lives and our minds.

The virus, experts have explained to us several times, is rampant and spreading, increasing infections to an extent exponential, if few and precise rules are not respected: social distance, the use of a mask and frequent hand washing.

Equally, however, damage is created to an extent exponential, when rash, inaccurate or even false statements are made.

In this case it can be said that "a nice silence was never written”And this concerns both our politicians, on both sides, government and opposition, and scientists who, as experts on the subject, should always make clear judgments and leave no doubts to those who listen to them.

Above all, they should not contradict each other, discrediting each other and creating dangerous confusion.

In order not to be too vague, we cannot forget how one of the leaders of the opposition, last summer, went on to say that everything had to be reopened, that the virus had finally left us and that we had to come back to life. Besides he continued, Trumpian way, to hold his electoral rallies, in view of the regional and municipal elections, without the use of the mask, thus sending continuous wrong and dangerous messages.

The virus is "clinically dead". These were the words he spoke last May. Dr. Alberto Zangrillo, director of intensive care at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

In these cases, extreme caution is required, especially when a scientist speaks on television.

When, that is, one is seen and heard by a large number of people.

From home you follow carefully what the specialist explains but, not all users are experts in the subject, most can be misled by a sentence pronounced with excessive lightness, or even just by a word used in an inappropriate way.

Here, then, is that the damage is done, since what has been said incorrectly can become synthesis immediately of the interview. From there, then, to say: "they said it on television”, The step is short.

Virological experts, immunologists, ICU directors, can make serious communication errors, because that is not their subject. In these cases, the role and competence become fundamental, in the subject matter, of those who interview these experts, or journalists, who must listen carefully to what they say and always intervene for any clarifications, where there are concepts expressed in a dubious way.

It is indeed absolutely unacceptable that all the conductors improvise interviewers, talk about Covid-19 without knowing in the least its peculiarities, the consequences that a possible contagion can bring, etc.

Anyone who interviews experts on the subject of the virus must, in turn, be a connoisseur of the virus, because, at that moment, it is done ensures what the interviewee will say.

A fundamental role in this complex situation is therefore played by communication and all those who work there, including radio, television, newspapers, social networks.

In this area too, after politics and science, there are unfortunately no shortage of bad examples.

The last, but only chronologically, was the intervention, on the radio directed by him, by the director of Radio Maria, Father Livio Fanzaga. In his view, Covid-19 is:

"A project aimed at weakening humanity, bringing it to its knees, establishing a sanitary and cyber dictatorship, creating a new world that is no longer of God the Creator, through the elimination of all those who do not say yes to this criminal project carried out by the world elites, with complicity perhaps of some state ". Everything to create "The world of Satan".

Beyond the religious beliefs of each of us, which are not in the least questioned here, it is also clear how statements of this kind can generate doubts and perplexities in those who listen to them. Furthermore, if you think that Radio Maria's audience is almost exclusively made up of elderly people, often alone, hearing words like these uttered by the director of “their” radio can only have negative effects.

Words like these authorize us to take the path of a dark skepticism, not a healthy doubt.

The next step is to start believing that this is all a colossal lie and then quickly get to denial and to believe in the health dictatorship.

Even today (November 22, 2020) we travel to over 30.000 new infections and about 700 deaths every day.

In extremely complex times, such as the ones we are experiencing, words can weigh like stones

Their lightness, or heaviness, depends only on their good or bad use.
