Padel is a game similar to tennis that is played in pairs.
The Padel court resembles the tennis one but is bordered on the four sides by walls, even if the ball bounces off the walls, it is still the game.
It may resemble squash in some ways, but it is very different and is focused on two-on-two team play.
The name comes from the Spanish language, where it is called paddle, for adaptation to the word paddles, which means 'paddle'.
In fact, special rackets are used to play padel.
In Italian we call it "shovel", it has a rigid plate useful for hitting the ball, similar to that of tennis but with a different internal structure.
What are the origins of the padel?
Padel was born in Mexico in the 70s.
It was born as strategies for playing tennis in a confined space, and in the long run it has become a real sport, given the fun and uniqueness of this particular field.
It spread first locally and then around the world. It starts from Spain to arrive in Argentina, France, USA and Brazil.
The country where it is most played is Spain, but it is having great success here too.
Padel courts have spread throughout Italy and there are many players who have fun and keep fit with this sport.
Of course it lacks the elegance and uniqueness of tennis, but it is still a very technical sport, fun and capable of creating a very active community.
And to think that it was born as a sort of elite sports basket, to then become a sport within everyone's reach, with fields distributed throughout the territory and equipment with acceptable costs.
Today padel is a very active sport, in Italy it is growing more and more and the interest in this sport is so strong that it has also taken away a little space from tennis.
On a competitive level, the situation is still behind, but we are sure that we will see Padel in important competitions sooner than we think.
