 Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 in a hospice for the poor, spending years in strict discipline. Abandoned by her father and finding herself in a strict Catholic congregation, Gabrielle was forced (in addition to the other young women) to learn the trade of sewing, finishing the edges of the sheets by hand.
