After the seizure of tons of products Breasts, why are tomato purees of this brand still found in supermarkets and in some cases are also on offer? We answer our readers' question

In recent days, many who have been baffled by what has been discovered about Petti, seem to have switched to buying Mutti or other brands of tomato sauce.

In the meantime, however, our readers have pointed out that Petti is on offer in some supermarkets, such as at Ipercoop, asking us why the past of this brand is still found in supermarkets, given how successful it is.

We then realized that Petti products are also on offer in other supermarkets. Examples are the Carrefour where we find Petti pulps on offer and the discounted past Petti on Eurospar flyer.

It could also be a coincidence, considering that pastries, including those of other brands, are often on offer in supermarkets (including Mutti which is frequently discounted and also currently is at Conad, Tuodì, Emmepiù and Penny Market). However, it is difficult to verify where exactly there are the discounts in the various areas of Italy since the flyers of the supermarkets change locally.

But in the case of the Petti discounts, could the scandal of the seizure of the products have also weighed? We do not know but, we remember it for the record, even if this were the case there is nothing suspicious or even less illegal. Past Breasts, indeed, they have never been withdrawn from the market, the seizure concerned only the references present in the company.

Furthermore, at least as replicated by Petti, the seized tomato would even be destined for the foreign market. We also add that the discounts are organized many days in advance, while the scandal broke out on April 27 (so just 10 days ago).

However, what happened must certainly have had heavy repercussions on the brand, as was inevitable. As a result, the demand for puree, pulp and Petti sauces may have dropped dramatically.

Of course, to understand exactly what happened and if Petti will really be convicted of food fraud, we should wait for the outcome of the investigations that will ascertain whether and how widespread the scam on Italian and Italian tomatoes was not.

In this moment, however, it is us consumers who can make a difference. Supermarket offers are often tempting, but the choice is ours as always: we can continue to buy industrial pastes or orient ourselves on artisanal ones or, even better, self-produce them at home with our tomatoes or with tomatoes purchased from trusted farmers.
